This project was carried out with a UK Supermarket and prior to the initial client meeting, it was identified that incidents and complaints were rising with drivers doing online customer grocery deliveries. The target for this project was to reduce these by 45% within 6 months.
Audience:
Supermarket Van Delivery Drivers.
Responsibilities:
Analysis, Action Mapping, Learning Proposal, Storyboarding, Graphic Design, Course Building.
Software Used: Articulate Storyline 360, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Audacity, Ayoa.
Action Mapping.
I facilitated an Action Mapping Session involving key Subject Matter Experts, including the Head of Learning and the National Driver Safety Manager. During this session, we reviewed complaints and incident logs collaboratively to pinpoint crucial training focal points.
Following the identification of key areas, I collaborated with them to define the essential actions learners should undertake to proficiently execute these tasks. Subsequently, we developed three scenarios aimed at providing a secure training environment where learners can effectively practice these tasks, emphasising the areas highlighted in the log.
The image below is from the session where we were establishing the actions.
Storyboarding.
Following the Action Mapping Sessions, for the first draft, I began designing the scenarios. Collaboration with stakeholders and SMEs was key, and through ongoing meetings and discussions, we refined the scenario design, established success metrics and timelines.
Once the first draft of the scenarios was agreed, I added all supporting instruction and other necessary information required for the users to understand the tasks and the decisions required.
With a finalised storyboard approved by stakeholders, I could move forward with building the module. The image below is an exert from that Storyboard.
eLearning Build.
In the development phase, I acknowledged the necessity of generating a substantial amount of graphics and audio to enhance realism and engage learners effectively, while also ensuring the elimination of any potential distractions from the content. This meticulous attention to detail extended to actions such as animating the van mirrors to close when the van door shut and capturing the reversing sounds of the vans by visiting a store.
Given the novelty of this approach for the client, I was mindful of the importance of involving them extensively in the design process and the selection of graphics to secure their buy-in and minimise the need for revisions. After building the graphics, we adopted an agile approach to reviews. I created prototypes for each scene and conducted discussions on any modifications during pre-scheduled meetings to facilitate swift development.
Following the completion of the module build, it underwent a final review and received approval.
Rollout and Evaluation.
The target of 45% was achieved within 3 months and it was found that anyone involved in any incidents or had any complaints against them had not completed the training.
